In 2018 she founded The Sage Initiative, a national impact investment collective of Indigenous womxn who invest between $1,000 and $50,000 (either alone or as partners) in Indigenous owned social purpose businesses. The Sage Initiative offers a circular economy, making capital available to Indigenous social enterprises from Indigenous womxn investors. Womxn receiving the investment also complete an investment curriculum to learn about Indigenous concepts of wealth and commerce through a trauma informed lens that addresses colonial relationships with money and over-lapping identities such as Indigeneity, gender, age and sexuality.Yamila Franco:She brings an award-winning career in the clean technology, social impact and finances space. Through the National Financial Literacy Campaign, their mission is to educate 30 million families by 2030 on all aspects of personal finances for generational impact. Her work centers around changing the legacy of debt and financial illiteracy to generational blessings for families through their workshops, partnerships and charitable giving. Yamila is certified Financial Professional through the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) and the Insurance Council of British Columbia (ICBC) with the goal to provide a rare environment in which anyone can feel safe & comfortable to discuss taboo topics like money management. As an entrepreneur, investor and co-founder Yamila also brings experience from the clean technology and e-commerce space. She is a general partner of Black Tech Capital, a venture capital firm investing in Black founders in the clean technology space, supporting her mission of creating more accessible pathways for Black, Indigenous and founders of Color to thrive in the entrepreneurial space.
